Favorite Video Game Characters #10 - Penelo from Final Fantasy XII
First off, I think Penelo’s character is absolutely adorable. Both in how she actually looks—don’t care what people say, I freaking love her jumpsuit—and how she acts. She’s in my “top 3 girls of Final Fantasy,” and really, I think she might actually be my #1 there.I know she falls into the “cheerful girl” mold that Final Fantasy has, but Penelo’s probably the last “cheerful girl” I think of. That’s not to say she isn’t cheerful, of course, but I mean that she’s that super-hyper-in-your-face type. She’s pretty mellow for a cheerful girl. She just isn’t very similar when you think of characters like Rikku or Vanille. She’s totally different, actually.
But I also like Penelo because I like her role in the story. No, her role isn’t as big as maybe Ashe or Balthier, but it drives me crazy when people say she (and Vaan, while we’re at it) were pointless to XII’s story because I don’t see that at all. I personally see them as the characters we’re meant to connect with, sort of like what Tidus was to X. We see the story through their eyes, the sorta “clueless and fell-into-an-intense-situation” character.I like how she is, though, and how she’s so caring and tries to look after other people. For Vaan, I absolutely love how she’s like a best friend, sister, mother hen, and love interest all rolled into one. She acts as his friend, scolds him like a mother, playfully bullies him like a sister, and at the same time, she has moments when she seems that she has romantic feelings for him too. I just love her personality.
I feel like Penelo’s a pretty strong character too. Not physically, but emotionally and maybe mentally too. She’s lost a lot to the war—including her entire family—but she doesn’t let it shake her. She keeps going with everything no matter what, she doesn’t dwell on it, and she doesn’t let it keep her down. Granted, it was two years before the start of the game if I remember right, but that’s still a lot to deal with, but she’s made a new life for herself and stayed strong. From looking at her, you’d probably never know that she’s lost and suffered so much.
So, I really don’t think Penelo’s at all pointless or boring or useless or anything like that. I think she’s a very strong and admirable character that really has a lot of depth to her—like all of XII’s characters—and doesn’t really get the credit she deserves.

Hey, guys. I just wanted to let you know that since it’s been so long, I probably might just let the last RPs go. I think it’s been over a week now on those for sure. If you really want me to continue, I will. :) But I feel like maybe it’d just be better to start new ones since it’s been so long. I am so sorry, guys.

And too, I know I said the semester’s over, so that would free me up to be here more, and I totally meant that! I just know that I’ve been MIA for…well, a lot of Prom, and then, even more since then.
In short, life’s been busy, and just recently, we’ve had some pretty heavy and emotional issues happen at my job, so that’s kind of weighing that down. So, I just wanted to apologize. I feel like I’m always making excuses or something, and it’s probably not even as big of a deal as I seem to think it is, but I just feel guilty when I’m MIA for multiple days at a time.

So, yeah. That’s that. Time to go through my dash now. Love you, guys!
